Agreed! I've been thinking about this alot in terms of the yoga studio I've been going to and a dance studio. Both a pretty expensive and I get a really bad deal for just going once or twice a week. the cost generally goes down the more classes you go to; but with my committments to other activities and sports I really cannot go more than once or twice a week to each of these.

The yoga studio has a better approach where I can buy a '10 class card' for R650 and it is valid for two months. That's R65/class. I can spread out my classes and go when I want to.

The dance studio charges R100/class as a drop-in fee and if I go to once class a week it is R350 and if I go to two a week (a double session on a Thursday night counts as two classes) then it is R450. But, if I give them my bank details and they do a debit order I think it comes down to R400 for exactly the same thing! It really puts me off because I don't want them doing a debit order.

I'm more in favour of a set fee per class regardless of how many times you come. A class card works well and I'm even up for giving one free class for every 10-class card completed. Those who come more regularly get 'more' free classes. I'd probably extend the 10-class card limit to three months - people go away, get ill. In three months you have the potential for 12/13 classes so I think that's a fair option.
